HOW TO | Install Marley Stormcloud® Spouting

Timeframe: 1-2 Days.

Tools Required: Drill, screwdriver, tape measure, string line, level, pencil, saw, access equipment (ladder/scaffold).

Materials Required: Marley Stormcloud® Spouting, Marley RP80® downpipes, Marely’s 80mm to 100mm pipe adaptor, brackets, Marley MCS® solvent cement, screws.

If your spouting is needing to be replaced, you may be surprised how simple it is to do yourself and find a look to suit your style of house. The Marley Stormcloud® is New Zealand’s most popular spouting style and it is obvious why - the versatile quarter-round profile with clean, strong lines suits both traditional and contemporary homes alike. Watch our HOW TO video to see how to install Marley Stormcloud® Spouting.

Step 1: Prepare

Plan what spouting you will replace and the materials that are required. Make sure that you put your safety first. Scaffolding may be required for any high or difficult to reach places.

Step 2: Plan

You need a high point and a low point so water can drain correctly. Your low points will be where your downpipes are, the high point will be the opposite end or either side of the downpipe depending on the run.

Step 3: Attach brackets

Fix initial bracket at the high point as high as possible on the fascia under the roof overhang. Make sure you allow room for corner pieces if the run starts with a corner.

Your dropper or expansion outlet is fixed at the low point. If you need an end cap on your dropper, make sure you use Marley MCS® solvent cement to attach it before you fix it.

Next, place your string line between high to low points, keeping in mind you need at least 5mm fall for every 10m of run.

Brackets are required at least every 500mm, measure out the bracket placement and then fix with at least 3 screws.

Step 4: Cut spouting to length

In most cases you will need at least two lengths of spouting along a typical roof edge.

Start with a full length at the high point, gluing on an end cap and joiner. Then measure the distance from the joiner to the dropper or corner, mark the length of your spouting and cut.

 Step 5: Install spouting

Install your spouting onto the brackets. Place the front of the guttering onto the front of the brackets, then roll the spouting into the back of the bracket. Check each bracket is fitted correctly, clicking it into place.

Use Marley MCS® solvent cement to join spouting lengths with a joiner. You must not use solvent cement with an expansion outlet, just slide the guttering in until it lines up with the temperature of the day. Note: You will need to measure and cut this spouting length to this mark on the expansion outlet prior to install.

Clean up and remove any excess cement on each join as you glue.

 Step 6: Fit downpipes

This spouting is used with matching Marley RP80® downpipes. You will need a combination of bends to attach your Expansion Outlet to the downpipes down your post or wall and to your stormwater outlet. Once you have configured the combination, solvent cement it together then attach it to the Expansion Outlet, without any glue. Use a screw as it makes it easy to remove the down pipes for cleaning out spouting.

Then measure the length required for the downpipe from the spouting outlet to the stormwater inlet, mark and cut.

Install your downpipe bracket to the wall, no more than 1.2 metres apart with the first bracket 200mm below the downpipe bend. Then attach the brackets around the downpipe and screw in place.

Ensure the downpipe is connected to stormwater outlet. Marely’s 80mm to 100mm pipe adaptor makes this join nice and tidy.
